The National Institute of Health Sciences is the premier health training institute in Sri Lanka. It is a prestigious national-level institute dedicated to providing high-quality training in various fields related to health.
The training programmes conducted by the NIHS are mainly coordinated and conducted by the training faculty while the field practice area provides opportunities for the trainee groups to practice and get hands-on experiences. Training faculty of the NIHS is comprised of five teaching departments and four training schools. It has undertaken all the training and through it’s highly competent staff consisting of consultants, medical officers, principals, tutors and primary health care workers. The training programmes include basic, post-basic, in-service, postgraduate and international training.
The training faculty of NIHS plays a crucial role in nurturing skilled professionals and ensuring the quality and standards of the training. The fostering environment equipped with modern facilities and resources necessary for training is an added privilege and facilitates its functions.
The team of experienced faculty members who are experts in their respective fields and their dedication ensures high-quality training. The leadership and guidance provided to the regional training centres and training centres facilitating the part 2 training ensuring the quality and maintenance of the uniformity of the training being conducted irrespective of the place of conduct is another responsibility of the training faculty.
The in-service training conducted through the training faculty offers continuing education opportunities to support professionals in staying updated with the latest advancements in healthcare. Training faculty also contributes to maintaining its training standards with revising and developing updated curriculums, Standard Operating Procedures, lesson plans and other resource materials.
The training faculty ultimately contributes health professional development and empowering health sector human resource influences policy making, ensure delivering quality healthcare and public health outcomes at both national and global perspectives.
As one of the main arms of the national-level training institute, training faculty stands as a beacon of excellence in healthcare training in shaping the future of healthcare delivery.
